Precise Facebook Ad targeting is one of the most challenging tasks a PPC manager needs to do. You can’t really target keywords or placements like you can with AdWords.
So, you need to find new ways of refining your audience in order to identify the segments which fit best to your buyer personas.
How do you do that? What strategies are the pros using to achieve success, high CTRs and high conversion rates? That’s what you’ll find out from the following lines.
To help you get better results, Facebook lets you create Custom Audiences which can then be analyzed in depth using the Audience Insights tool. Needless to say, Custom Audiences really improve your Facebook Ad targeting because they contain people who have already shown interest in your services or products.
To create such an audience, you need to visit your Facebook Ads Manager and go to the Audiences section. Select Create Audience, then Custom Audience. You’ll now see multiple options:
It’s really great Facebook gives you the chance to monetize your email lists even further. By using it to create a custom audience, you will be able to reach your email subscribers on Facebook as well.
To create a custom audience containing your email subscribers, you’ll first want to export your lists as .CSV. If you’re using MailChimp, you can just do a direct sync, without the need to export your lists.
In the Audiences section of Facebook Ads manager, select Create Audience – Custom Audience, then select Customer File.
Now all you need to do is upload your email list and select the identifiers you consider relevant for your targeting (name, phone number, zip code and so forth). Keep in mind the more detailed your email lists, the more accurate your custom audience will be.
Additionally, if your email lists are segmented properly, your Custom Audiences will perform a lot better.
Custom audiences, like the ones mentioned above, are really great for targeting your email subscribers with Facebook ads.
However, they won’t allow you to find new potential customers for your business or products. In this case, you’ll need to create a lookalike audience. It means creating a different audience with people who don’t know your business, but share the same interests as your current customers.
The process is really easy and simple. Head to the same Audiences section, select one of your custom audiences created already and from the Actions tab, select Create Lookalike.
You will then be prompted to select how broad the matching process should be. It will take a while before the list is populated, so you won’t be able to use it right away.
Lookalike audiences are one of the best ways to improve your Facebook Ad targeting and get more results. Additionally, use high-quality and engaging ad copy and creative and you’ll be blown away by the precise targeting and low CPC value.
