One of the major problems for everyone that has an online business and is just getting started, is how to attract targeted traffic to their website. While traffic is important, attracting targeted traffic that will eventually convert into leads, is more important.

How To Attract Targeted Traffic To Your Website

You can’t have one without the other. That being said, you can’t convert something you don’t have: visitors.

The first step to getting leads is to get targeted traffic on your site. Otherwise, your visitors will remain only visitors, because they will not represent your target audience.

  • Using relevant keywords. Through organic search you are able to attract targeted visitors to your website. For this technique to work, you need to optimize your pages and your content using keywords that your audience is most likely to search for. If a person searches for a keyword and then lands on your website, he will have a greater chance of being converted into a lead because he was able to find an answer to his problem on your website.
  • Create quality content. Search engine optimized content + valuable content = visitors will love your website. They will not only love it, but they will also stay on it for longer, which increases the chances of converting them into leads. Don’t be salesy when writing the copy for your website. Instead, focus on the value you can provide  through your product or service.
  • Content marketing through blogging. According to HubSpot, companies that have a blog section on their website, have 55% more visitors than those who don’t, and they also generate more leads. A blog’s purpose is attracting visitors, making you a thought leader, and to helping your audience be informed. The principle above applies here as well: if a targeted visitor stays on your page for longer, it will increase the chances of becoming a lead.

  • Be social. Being active on social media, and sharing the content you create on social networks will bring you a lot of traffic. Think about it: how many websites do you enter directly? Usually, we see an article shared on social media, and that’s what makes us click on it. So take advantage of this medium, and build a strong following that will help you attract targeted traffic.

How To Convert Targeted Traffic Into Leads

Now that you’ve managed to attract targeted visitors to your website, it’s time to see how you can convert them into leads.

I’ve mentioned above that quality content is one way to do this because after you attract targeted traffic, your visitors will stay on your website longer. You can add calls to action on the most important pages, and in your blog posts that will entice the visitor to respond.

For example, you can ask your visitors to subscribe with their email address to receive your newsletter once a week, or to receive some lessons from you. They will be more likely to do so, because they’ve already spent some time on your website, and they consider you a valuable asset.

Also, aside from the subscribing option, you can insert a pop up, which will also require your visitors to leave their email address. By crafting the perfect message for your pop up, you will increase the percentage of those who are converted into leads.

To convert your targeted visitors into leads, you have to give them a reason to stay on your site, and then find a way to engage with them (like the ideas I mentioned above).
